For this pastel Valentine’s / sending love card, I’ve mixed together a combination of dies and stamp sets to create a soft, playful design with plenty of texture and detail. The original idea began with wanting to colour the flowers in five coordinating pastel shades and pair them with the Endless Love Large Heart Die (which I absolutely love!).
I initially die cut the large heart from Gold Foil. If you caught me creating this card live or watched the replay you’ll have seen me change my mind halfway through. While the gold was gorgeous, it felt a little too solid and heavy for the soft pastel colour palette I was aiming for.

Changing the Background Design
My original plan was to use an embossed panel for the background. However, once I had die cut into it for the large heart, I realised I needed an alternative. I had previously used the XO stamp as a background on another Valentine’s card, so this time I decided to build a playful pastel background by stamping the XO repeatedly in the same coordinating colours used on the flowers.
Even though the stamping was done in pastel tones, the background still felt quite busy. Following a suggestion from those watching my live crafting session, I added a layer of vellum to soften the design and it made such a difference. The vellum gently tones everything down while still allowing the colour and pattern to show through.
I’m also delighted to have beautiful, high-quality vellum back in our online store. The vellum pack [167099] includes 12 sheets, each measuring 12″ x 12″, making it perfect for card making, layering, and other paper crafting projects.

Finishing Touches
To finish the card, I added Flower Accent embellishments [165171] to the centres of the flowers, which give just the right amount of shine without overpowering the soft design. The foliage was die cut from the Nature’s Symphony Dies [166925], adding texture and balance around the heart focal point.
